The project has been awarded by Govt. of Kerala and is funded by Asian Development Bank. The duration of the project is 15 months.

The scope of work involves establishment of an integrated municipal solid waste processing and disposal facility at Kuripuzza, located 5 km from city of Kollam having a population of approx 3 lacs, with MSW generation rate of 110 tonnes per day. The project further requires establishing a new engineered sanitary landfill facility and closure of existing municipal solid waste dump site along with erection and commissioning of an electromechanical compost plant and establishment of leachate treatment plant for leachate generated from compost and landfill facility.

This project will help Kollam city comply with MSW (Management & Handling Rules, 2000) and contribute towards ecological conservation of Asthmudi Lake, which is cited under Ramser Convention of International Wetlands, by providing treatment for leachate from solid waste dump site located at Kuripuzza.

This project shall further strengthen JUSCO’s presence in the emerging urban waste management sector in southern part of country.
