:: CII's felicitates JUSCO as an excellent water-efficient units at the 6th National Award for Excellence in Water Management 2009

Mr N K Ranganath, Chairman, Water Management Council, CII – Godrej Green Building Centre recognised JUSCO as “Excellent Water Management initiative” under ‘Beyond the Fence’ category at the annual National Award for Excellence in Water Management 2009 organised on 10 December 2009 at CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, Hyderabad.

‘Beyond the Fence’ recognises the initiatives taken in implementing water and watershed management practices with involvement of public/ private agencies and community. JUSCO presented a case study on "Customer Driven Excellence in Water Management – JUSCO experience at Jamshedpur". JUSCO Team was represented by Mr Pranay Sinha, DGM and Mr H Kutty, Manager, JUSCO.

This would be the 2 national recognition won by JUSCO in 2009 in the field of Water Management. JUSCO has also been recognised by international bodies for its contribution towards water management initiatives globally.  

The evaluation was done based on a detailed questionnaire submitted earlier by 88 companies (76 companies for Within the Fence and 12 companies for Beyond the Fence) industrial units followed by a detailed presentations made by  35 short-listed companies before a  panel of eminent judges headed by Mr L S Ganapathy, Chairman, National Award Committee, CII, on 09 & 10 December 2009 at CII Godrej GBC, Hyderabad.

Congratulating all the teams for their unique and innovative water saving technologies,  Mr N K Ranganath, said conserving water  is the need of the hour and briefed on the activities and initiatives of CII in promoting water efficiency in Indian industry.
Mr Ranganath said, CII through the Water Management Council and with the support of all the stakeholders is working towards making Indian Industries to achieve self sufficiency in water management. 

The council facilitates implementation of Water conservation and Water recycling techniques through water audits in industries and provides advisory services to all sectors of industry.  

Mr L S Ganapati, Chairman, National Award for Excellence in Water Management 2009 presenting the summary of findings said “the criteria for evaluating the teams included  reduction in specific water consumption; water conservation projects implemented; reduction in waste water discharge and efforts towards achieving zero- discharge; awareness on water conservation-plant/ community; targeting anti-pollution drives and vendor/associate involvement in conserving water and other water conservation measures including monitoring per capita water consumption etc.

Mr Ganapati informed that the 76 companies have achieved a cumulative water savings of 66 Million Cubic Meters of water savings in the last three years. This is approximately equivalent to one month water supply of Delhi Municipal Corporation and 22 participating units achieved the status of ‘Zero Water Discharge’.
